This publication provides a general overview of developments in the field of employment law between 1 January 2014 and 31 December 2014.
Naturally, the main matter occupying everyone involved with employment law in the Netherlands has been the introduction of the Work and Security Act. The Journal of the Dutch Bar Association has also looked at this topic in detail. The past year, however, has also seen a number of interesting rulings in the area of employment law, which will still be significant after the introduction of the Work and Security Act. This chronicle looks at decisions on summary dismissal with immediate effect, criteria for defining what constitutes an employment contract, strikes, payment of wages during sickness and the rights of the heirs of a deceased employee. Finally, we will take a look at new legislation, including the Work and Security Act.
